The Snake That Ate Good Friday

OK, the snake didn't actually eat Good Friday but we won't forget this Good Friday for a bit.  The pictures above are my husband first and my SIL second.  They are not small men.  This is part of the story.  Oh and I call the picture of my husband turkey daze because that's what he was in the day after Turkey day 2007 when it was taken, he does own a clean coat too but had been in the barn or somewhere.
The story?
I got dsl last week, I had dsl before but it was dsl and then over wireless like 300 yards and well this is faster.  So my daughter, SIL, and kids were over last Friday, we were getting ready for our traditional meal of Casey's pizza and had scattered to various positions around the family room either watching tv or playing on a computer, had 3 computers in family room and were really getting into this fast computer stuff.  Anyway I was setting up the laptop on a big desk for my grandson, this desk used to be my fathers for years and then I put a top on it from Pottery barn, hidden by the side is a surge protector.  Grandson said what is that on surge protector.  "A snake?"  As I was taking my 3rd step in 20 feet exiting the room I said "yes."  My SIL said something about gloves and I honestly wasn't running away, all the gloves were in the other end of the house.  When I got back with the heavy leather gloves my SIL was holding up the couch in the family room and my husband was stomping the snake in his stocking feet, evidently the snake had tried to escape across the desk and under the couch.  I was really hoping the snake wasn't poisonous @ that point.  It wasn't, some sort of bull snake or garter snake.  They do NOT belong in the house however and WILL BE KILLED in the house.  End of subject.
Go ahead say ewwwwwww snakes in the house.  This part of the house wasn't really meant to be lived in, it's a converted garage without carpet on part of it.  I had it all sealed up because we had a problem with ringnecks years ago and hadn't had much of a problem since then but the screen door doesn't always shut tight and it was going to get colder over the weekend.  So Mr. Snake decided he would come in and curl up around the nice warm surge protector.  He was actually less than a foot and smaller than my finger but still.......I wear flip flops and turn the light on now before I come out here but I did sleep out here on the couch, didn't freak me out THAT bad.
But I won't forget the image of two BIG men killing this snake, I mean I'm glad they did but it was really pretty funny, snake didn't stand a chance...and you all know I really do love animals, snakes in the house are right where I draw the line though!

Animal News for October 1, 2009

You know you have to go to my new improved wonderful stupendous blog here to read these stories don't you? it's not here, you have to click on the link above to go there. If you don't know it yet I have a bunch of animal stories about a lost dog, a yorkie and a thief, my lab/golden retriever, my bichon frise, my daughters yorkie poo and a cat emancipator. Oh yeah the Gosselins and a woman eating goldfish and the dog flu too.
So go to my new blog PLEEAZE? I mean I've had like 1500 visitors a day here when I blogged about Obama's choice of a Labradoodle or a Portugese Water Dog. So how many do I get on my new blog like 6, a day. I'm not complaining or anything (yes I am WHINE WHINE) but I would really like to make a go of my new blog since I own it? So if you want these stories or are the tiniest bit curious go HERE.
Or if you want to read about my probably wrong opinions or my boring life you can go visit Tresa's Blog.
Right now I have to go pick up my medicine which I ordered @ a pharmacy that didn't take my insurance (duhhh) so I had to have it transferred, grocery shop and fix supper for the guys which I enjoy believe it or not! The cooking thing, not picking up medicine.

Alligator Loose In Morgan County!

Picture is from The National Geographic.

The big news about this is it's Morgan County Missouri, not Morgan County Alabama. Link here and amusing comments to boot! Seems the missing alligator can survive, he/she just can't breed in the unlikely case he/she finds another alligator. The missing gator wasn't 3 miles from a very large freshwater lake, The Lake Of The Ozarks, I think somewhere I read there's more shoreline on it than California has on the Pacific but that's counting all the coves and creeks up quite a ways, maybe it's Lake of The Ozarks and Truman Lake combined which would be quite plausible.

Evidently it was a pet and was stolen or let loose or something. A local festival was going on not 2 miles from where the Alligator was, the festival is called the Pigeon Swap and is actually in a field that's on top of a huge cave. I kid you not. This is also like 2 miles from my daughters house. No alligator sightings were reported @ the Pigeon Swap and that's not a line you'll hear every day. (the pigeon swap is a giant flea market/street fair type atmosphere, it's great if you like to walk and buy animals or anything handmade or anything actually).

The reason I was reminded of said alligator is a relative emailed me and suggested we needed to put the dogs in the house, she had heard of the alligator from the authorities in the next county? I actually hadn't thought of it. Said Alligator is 10 miles away as the crow flies, granted it's a sparsely populated 10 miles but I would think he would head south to the lakes. When she emailed me I had just come back from fishing @ the little pond with my grandsons and left them down there (grandsons finished mowing the "other" part of the lawn today and weedeated! Thanks Zach and Marcus! So grandma went fishing with them). It's not far from the house but it did give me the willies the authorities thought it could come this far? I guess living in Mississippi not far from the coast with all the displaced alligators and baby ones bobbing up investigating my fishing line made me more blase about alligators than the average Missourian? I did see something in the pond but I'm pretty sure it was a turtle.

I told my husband when he called about the alligator on the loose, I'd forgot to tell him before. Husband being in down South where there really are alligators thought I was full of bull hockey till I explained the story, I had to repeat the line twice that there was an alligator on the loose up here, he thought the phone was messing up. I just hope they find the gator and he doesn't cause too much of a stir. Or appear on my doorstep anytime.

Postscript: Go to this link for another look @ the missing gator and also a gator that was actually caught in a park lake in Sherman TX, granted TX is south but Sherman is north of Dallas. I believe there is one that lives in DeQueen AR also. Do not ask me how I know this. One was sighted in Indiana also, you start looking for gators where they shouldn't be and egads they are everywhere!

300 Dogs Rescued From North Carolina Puppy Mill

Three hundred dogs were rescued Friday from a puppy mill in North Carolina. The dogs were mainly Lhasa Apso, Shih-Tzus and Chihuahuas.
The link is here to the complete story.
The animals were housed in unheated unventilated outbuildings without proper medical care or socialization.
Being an animal lover and perhaps letting my animals run a little too freely I just can't understand how people can treat dogs like this.
If you have room in your heart and home for a dog please consider adopting a rescue dog.
